Within the class AS of matrices which are anti-symmetric and ``persymmetric" (i.e., symmetric with respect to the - Australians permitting - northeast-southwest diagonal), the authors prove the existence and uniqueness and the expression of the best approximant for a given matrix, with a numerical test added. The preparatory material involves the generation of an element of AS with a specified eigenpair. Solvability conditions are studied and an explicit formula is provided and illustrated. | ||
